Mission Statement of the Institute:
A brief History of the Creation, Past and Current Leadership of the Department
The establishment of the Laboratory Technology Training Programme in the University was as a result of the agitations of few technologists in the University. In 1994, the Faculty of Science set up a Committee to prepare a programme for the Laboratory Training Scheme (L.T.T.S) and the Committee recommended the establishment of LTTS to the University based on the Nigerian Institute of Science Technology (NIST) Syllabus. In mid 1997, the Senate of the University approved the programme and allowed the Faculty of Science to run it. However, another committee was set up to look at the earlier report and the Committee used data collected from other Universities to redefine the running of the programme based on NIST programme.
In April, 1999, the Faculty Board of Science again set up a Committee to review the L.T.T.S. programme to accommodate issuance of internal certificates of the University in line with the practice in similar institutions due to the demand by LTTS students for internal certificates on completion of their courses. The curriculum was then presented to the Faculty Board of Studies in June, 1999, while the programme was converted from a Diploma to a B.Sc degree by the Senate of the University in February, 2005. Past and current leadership of the Institute are: Dr. S.A. Olorunsola 2000 – 2002, Dr. L.K. Olofintoye 2002 -2004, Dr. I.G. Adanlawo 2004 – 2006, Dr. M.B.O. Shitta 2006 – 2007 and Dr. S.O. Adefemi - Ag. Director (2008 to date).
